Dr Alex Markwell
Experienced emergency physician, former Chair of Queensland Clinical Senate and passionate about wellbeing, doctor’s health and work-life flexibility.
Dr Alex Markwell is an Emergency Physician at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and Immediate Past Chair of the Queensland Clinical Senate. She is a Senior Lecturer with the University of Queensland and a member of the Bond University Health Sciences and Medicine Faculty Advisory Board. Alex is an active member of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) Council of Advocacy, Practice and Partnerships and several subcommittees.
Alex is passionate about health care workers’ health, wellbeing, and work-life flexibility and is founding member of Wellness Resilience and Performance in Emergency Medicine (WRaP EM). She is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors Course, and has been a director in several not-for-profit organisations.
Authentic Clinical Leadership- why it matters
As clinicians we are often called upon to lead- sometimes formally but more often informally. Does it matter if you haven’t had formal leadership training? In this session we will explore authentic clinical leadership and contrast with other leadership styles and approaches. We’ll consider what to do when there aren’t any rules, and why it matters.
